If you're like us then you love sport compact drag racing and live for the wild engine conversions and big horsepower combinations their drivers come up with. With Jamboree 21 only a day or so away, we thought we'd help you get in the mood with something a bit special.

Resident Zoom photographer and sport compact correspondent, Jason Gynn, recently jumped on a jet plane, flew stateside and rolled up to Atco Raceway to cover the Pan American Nationals exclusively for Zoom Magazine readers. While you'll have to wait until issue #169 to see the feature in the magazine, here's a little video teaser to whet your appetite.

While surfing the net we came across this clip on Youtube of our good friend Anthony DeOlivera getting a bit excited with the throttle in his 10-second Mazda 1000 ute during the off-street racing at the recent Sydney Powercruise.

Watch how what began as a pretty awesome powerskid quickly turns into a spin-dry, sending the little orange ute flying towards yours truly while I was snapping away at the action. As you can see, I was given a front row seat to the spin as it unfolded so keep an eye out for the sequence of photos in an upcoming issue of Zoom.

For those of you unfortunate enough to miss out on this years Jamboree, you're in luck.  One HD is bringing J20 to you this Saturday 27/11/10, in all its high definition glory.

The action starts from 8.30pm in QLD, 9.30pm in NSW/VIC, 9.00pm in SA and 6.00pm in WA. (check your local guides) and will feature a solid 60 mins of Sport Compact drag racing.

There was plenty of tough cars out on the track for the first Full Throttle Friday of the season and it was none-stop action right through the night. Unfortunately the buzz of the night was dampened somewhat by a horrific accident involving Steven 'Junior' Abreu's 'back-halfed' RX3 and Anthony Daquino's full chassis RX3.

As I noted in a previous post, our colleagues over at Street Fords had a Ford press car last week and they tested it at the street drags at Sydney Dragway and on a chassis dyno. The first dyno figures generated some vigorous debate on various car forums, so we took up some of the doubters on their challenge to run the BOSS 335 on their dyno.

So we did. And then we went back to the original dyno to run it again.

The SMH has an article about Subaru unveiling a new STi model Forester at the forthcoming Sydney motor show. What current Forester XT owners will tell you is that the XT's motor is basically the same as the STi version and only needs some simple power-ups to give an XT STi levels of power and torque.

 As part of our visit out to Pulse Racing in Menai, Paul Fisher walks us through the power-ups available for Subaru Foresters. Check out the video of Paul explaining what is required to give your XT more grunt over the fold.

Eddie Colon arrived at Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway for J20 after travelling all the way from Puerto Rico only to find himself without his 6sec RX7. It hadn’t arrived in time so in an act of true generosity, Dib Taouil from Sydney’s TCR Automotive offered Eddie the drive of his street 289-spec 7sec FD RX7.
