Jamboree 2010 - Team Talk - Anthony Maatouk

One of the hottest new cars to hit the tracks in recent months is the stunning VL GOD Commodore driven by Sydney’s Anthony Maatouk. Some may know Anthony’s previous ride, another VL that wore the same licence plates, and its astonishing 8.007sec personal best at over 174mph.
Full team report over the fold.
Anthony has stepped things up significantly with his new ride and thanks to his brand new twin-cam RB30 engine combination, a tank full of methanol and a big Garrett turbo making plenty of boost, the new car is already miles ahead of his competition. It ran a 7sec pass at its first meeting and has since run as quick as 7.68sec.

The first couple of passes in qualifying at J20 didn’t go 100% to plan for Anthony with the Pro Turbo Commodore spinning the 10.5W tyres hard off the line. He sorted things out for the third pass though and managed a 7.718sec pass at 171.93mph.
Anthony told us that the car started behaving itself and running consistent numbers and that the meeting was a success. “We put on a show for the boys that help out with the car, the crowd were happy and we had a great response from the fans all weekend. There were always people around the car whenever we came back from a run.”

We also asked Anthony what it was like to race Rod Harvey – the fastest man in a sport compact car anywhere in the world. “He left on me [reacted sooner] and I didn’t mind that. That’s better than having that thing come past me in the deep end!”
Look out for Anthony and the Maatouk’s Racing VL GOD Commodore at future events around the country.
