Rob Campisi – Procomp Motorsport Twin-Turbo Mustang

Australia’s quickest and fastest turbocharged car soared to new heights at the recent 2010 Jamboree. Rob Campisi stunned the crowd in his twin-turbo BBF Mustang running a string of low six-second passes throughout the weekend’s racing.

Full team report over the fold.

When we asked the car’s builder, SCF Race Cars Craig Burns together with the driver, Rob, what the plan was for the first pass, their response was simply that they'd, “...left it where it was last week in Sydney [where the car ran 6.36 and 6.37 at 229 and 231mph respectively] so it should do something like that.”

Well guys, you weren’t far wrong! ‘Campo’ started off the weekend with a super-quick 6.38 @ 228mph pass proving that the Jamboree track had what it took to handle the power from the twin Precision turbocharged 632ci big block Ford engine.

This opening pass was soon followed by a 6.30 and then a 6.28@233mph. After blazing the tyres on the next pass for a slower 7.11@233mph though, the crowd were unsure if the car could better its times as the track began to cool. The car came out again though and it was clear that the team weren’t there to play with a blistering 6.26 at a slightly off-pace 221mph.

The final round saw ‘Campo’ ready, willing and able to make an attack on his own stellar ET and speed records and from the 6.18sec dial-in on the window, the friendly Willowbank staff knew it was game time. The resulting pass brought the crowd to its feet, hands in the air, as the time boards displayed a mind boggling 6.212 @ 237mph pass.

The maroon monster is now not only the quickest and fastest turbo car in the country it is also the quickest and fastest automatic sedan in the country. The grumpy turbocharged BBF doing all the talking has now thrown down just 17 passes with the big block combo, flawlessly showing the quality of the build and what it takes to push the boundaries of the Super Sedan class. Are there fives around the corner for Campo? Only time will tell.
