Two litres, four pistons and six-second bound

Fresh off the back of running the country's quickest pass for a sport compact four-cylinder at Jamboree 21, Collin Willshire and the Jett Racing team have solidified their position as the baddest four-pot in the land with an encouraging 7.18sec pass at 190.7mph.

In a field of larger capacity four-cylinder engines, Collin's Eclipse still sports a standard displacement 2.0L 4G63, albeit in a highly modified form. With his entrance into the Factory Extreme ranks forming part of its inception, Collin is keen to show that a well setup four-cylinder is more than enough to match it with the heavy hitters. We caught up with Collin after his recent record pass.

"Well obviously our goal is to crack the 6 second barrier. It is really a new car for us when it comes to setting it up. The car's first real race meeting was the Jamboree and of course we went very well and we were extremely happy. That same engine is still currently sitting in the car as we speak.

"On the last pass at Jambo the car was a little unstable in the top end so we really wanted to find out why. This wasn’t easy, so we opted to purchase all new Santuff Suspension from the USA. All the Pro Mod guys run this Suspension along with Zappia here in Oz. So we fitted all this up, and went back testing over the last couple of weeks.

"We had to make some changes to the 4 Link, suspension settings and tyre pressures along with softening up our clutch a little as well. The car has really only done about 15 full passes so we are still very green in some areas and we are still learning about clutched cars seing as we have only run autos in the past."

The team's last four passes have all been in the 190mph zone but it was the first sixty feet that needed work. Collin continues;

"We finally went 1.08sec in the 60 and we went 159mph at half-track. This was 5mph more at the half than when we ran the 7.22 at the Jambo so we are slowly getting there. We really wanted to do more testing on the car, but we had to pack it into a container the day after Boxing Day and send it to NZ and race it. Our six-second pass will have to wait until I return. The car and be ready for the Sydney Jamboree."

Collin says his goal is to run a six-second pass using the factory displacement engine - a feat we're sure is within their grasp after just a handful of passes.
