THE BEAST IS BACK

Well, kind of...

For those of you out there that are not hard-core rotary devotees and may be unaware, 2011 marks the 20th anniversary of Mazda’s victory in the gruelling 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. To celebrate this anniversary, Le Mans event organisers have invited Mazda to demonstrate the legendary Mazda 787B on the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France on Saturday June 11 prior to the main event, the 24-hour race. In addition to the on track action, the car will also be taking part in the Driver’s Parade through the Le Mans city centre on Friday June 10.

In 1991, Mazda became the first and only Japanese car manufacturer to win the race to date and since that historic day, the Sleek-looking Mazda 787B, with its 700hp quad rotor engine has been the subject of many a rotor-heads wet dreams. Since 1991, the winning 787B has been on static display in the Mazda Museum in Hiroshima, Japan. In preparation for the demo lap at this year's event, Mazda have restored the car back to a driving state for the first time since its historic win all those years ago.
