Close call at Sydney Powercruise

While surfing the net we came across this clip on Youtube of our good friend Anthony DeOlivera getting a bit excited with the throttle in his 10-second Mazda 1000 ute during the off-street racing at the recent Sydney Powercruise.

Watch how what began as a pretty awesome powerskid quickly turns into a spin-dry, sending the little orange ute flying towards yours truly while I was snapping away at the action. As you can see, I was given a front row seat to the spin as it unfolded so keep an eye out for the sequence of photos in an upcoming issue of Zoom.

For those of you who unfortunately cannot make it to Sydney Dragway on Sunday 3/4/11 for the Sydney Jamboree, you don't have to miss out on all the action.

"For the first time ever, the Sydney Jamboree will be streamed live on the Internet where Drag Racing fans from 38 different countries can log in to watch live racing action. A state of the art fibre optic streaming system, comprising four separate cameras along the Quarter Mile."

Qualifying from 8.30am to 2.45pm, before racing takes place from 3pm.

Proving once more that Sydney-siders still love Sport Compact drag racing, Sydney Jamboree is ready to rock Sydney Dragway with full fields of 4's, 6's and rotaries. The event has received more than 150 pre-entries across all classes including an incredible 10 in Pro Turbo - a category that includes both the quickest and fastest rotary and six cylinder Compacts in the world.

Sydney Jamboree Testing Updates - McGregor 7.65 @ 181.5mph

Just in case you didn't already know, the Kiwis are a dominant force in the world of Spor t Compact drag racing. After a disappointing J20, the Heat Treatments team and its driver Reece McGregor are super-keen to set the record straight and prove that their awesome R32 GT-R is still the top dog when it comes to AWD record breaking.

Reece and the team are testing right now and early news is that the first full-noise pass down the track resulted in an awesome 7.65sec @ 181.5mph.

OKE020 RUNS 7.97 @ 178MPH!

Zoom's favourite radial tyre race car, Scott Hoffman's OKE020, has just run its very first seven second pass at the Pro Street Shootout running right now at Willowbank Raceway. Scott's car is still on 275 radial tyres and he says there's plenty left in it. More updates to follow as they happen.

Super Compact Showdown at Sydney Dragway - March 18/19

The Pac Performance Mazda 6 and a host of other incredible Super Compact turbocharged rotaries and piston engine'd race cars will be competing at Round 5 of the ANDRA Pro Series on the 18th and 19th of March at Sydney Dragway,. Come along and support the teams and see whether the world's quickest and fastest rotary race car can hold its own against the mighty 2JZ Toyotas!

A selection of images from the 5/3/11 Full Throttle Friday meet at Sydney Dragway is now online here in the Gallery section.

The night was action-packed, with a few new cars making their debuts that really got people talking, as well as a  handful of cars coming over from the Powercruise event at the neighboring Easter Creek Raceway.
